Hama Japanese Cuisine: Sushi Heaven

19 05 2008

Out of the various cuisines available in Boracay, nothing beats eating seafood. Of course, being an island paradise, you’re almost guaranteed that everything’s fresh from the sea; and while many other establishments offer grilled seafood, we decided to stick to the basics and go fresh all the way, Japanese style.

 Going Japanese in Boracay

Hama, as compared to Aria and Cafe del Sol, has a more roomy dining area. It doesn’t follow a traditional Japanese interior, but you do get the feel of Japan when you spot their sushi display at the end of the room. The waiters and staff are very accomodating and well versed in the menu which is a great help since some of the items don’t indicate what the dishes are made of.

Free appetizers while you wait

Service is fast and they even provide free appetizers for you to munch on while you wait. Prices are reasonable as Japanese restaurants go. The sushi and sashimi are quite affordable, and though the cooked dishes are a bit on the steep end in terms of price, they do come in large servings so you can share them with your companions.

Califronia maki roll

We ordered a California Maki Roll and some Salmon Sashimi to start with. Both were neatly prepared and served in little amount of time. It was really good and refreshing.

Salmon sushi

For our main course, I ordered a Miso Ramen which, safe to say, in its size is actually good for 2-3 persons. It came in a large bowl with plenty of soup and noodles. The ony thing I didn’t like about it was the lack of miso flavor despite it being a miso ramen.

Miso Ramen that's good for 2-3 persons

There are a lot of other dishes to choose from ranging from tempura to rice toppings all prepared in the Japanese manner, but personally, nothing beats the taste of sushi and sashimi. If ever I were to solely base my judgement on Hama on these two traditional Japanese dishes, I would give them an A+.

.

The Good:
Fast service and roomy dining area

The Bad:
Some dishes might not taste the way you expect them to
